Job Summary

At West Bend, you will learn the basics of actuarial concepts and how they can be applied in actuarial work. You’ll learn basic strategies and pitfalls that broaden your knowledge of what actuaries do and the challenges they face in their work, and understand the role actuaries play in an insurer’s operations. You will have the opportunity to have hands on experience by working collaboratively with the other team members in the Actuarial Department and participating in a variety of work projects during the internship.

Responsibilities & Qualifications

Responsibilities:

  • Assist the actuarial staff in extracting, compiling, reviewing, and analyzing data in support of the goals of the Actuarial Department
  • Become familiar with company operations, systems, and actuarial methodologies
  • Perform appropriate checks within processes to minimize errors and inaccuracies and verify data reconciliations
  • Understand how work done by the Actuarial Department impacts company operations and other departments
  • Present information to peers and other departments as warranted

Required Education:

  • Pursuing an undergraduate degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics or another quantitative-related major
  • At least a sophomore standing in college
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0
  • Completion of at least one actuarial exam

Preferred Skills Include:

  • Experience working with SAS, SQL, VBA, or other coding languages
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Strong time management skills
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Ability to complete project-related tasks and meet deadlines
