Work Location

This is a work from home role where you will be servicing the state of Michigan. On occasion you may be asked to travel to a West Bend office location for in-person engagement activities such as team meetings, training and corporate events.

 

 

 

Responsibilities & Qualifications

To be considered for this opportunity, you must reside in the state of Michigan, ideally in the Lansing, Kalamazoo, Grand Rapids, or Ann Arbor areas.

 

Summary of Responsibilities:

As a Claims Specialist, you will handle complex claims with minimal supervision and guidance from the manager. Your role will involve utilizing current claims technology, conducting thorough investigations, evaluating damages and liability, and negotiating settlements with insureds, claimants, and attorneys. Additionally, you will be responsible for active file management, ensuring proper reserving, participating in training activities, presenting claims to the Committee, and supervising litigated files. You will also serve as a mentor for others in the team or department, consistently exhibiting a high level of customer service and adherence to department audit guidelines.

 

Preferred Experience and Skills:

  • Proficiency with computers and current technology
  • Prior experience handling commercial property claims
  • Construction or mitigation experience is a plus
  • Strong time management, interpersonal, negotiation, and problem-solving skills
  • Prior experience handling large and complex claims
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

Preferred Education and Training:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Insurance, or a related field
  • Associate in Claims designation
  • Associate in General Insurance designation
  • CPCU coursework or other continuing education

Salary Statement

The salary range for this position is $67,055 - $90,200.   

 

The actual base pay offered to the successful candidate will be based on multiple factors, including but not limited to job-related knowledge/skills, experience, business needs, geographical location, and internal equity.  Compensation decisions are made by West Bend and are dependent upon the facts and circumstances of each position and candidate.
